Inca Trail, Peru Sight-Seeing Tours
When you travel on Incas & Amazon, you'll be staying at small hotels/guesthouses and using a variety of local transport, from coaches, trains and planes, to hiking and canoe.
There are two options, a 15 day trip or a 19 day trip which includes the Amazon Jungle.
Day 1
Lima - the capital of Peru. Free day to see the many museums, historical monuments, markets, restaurants and colonial plazas.
Day 2
Ballestas Islands - view this spectacular marine reserve and take a boat trip to view one of the highest concentrations of rare and exotic sea birds and mammals.
Days 3 to 4
Ica Desert - visit the Tacama winery and also try Peru's national drink, Pisco.
Oasis of Huacachina - a palm fringed lake surrounded by impressive sand dunes, relax on the beach, go for a swim and then there's the option to head out on a custom made dune buggy and roar across the desert sands to the top of enormous dunes and sand board down them! Tonight, sit around our desert campfire while your guides cook up a storm, followed by a night sleeping out under the stars.
Day 5
The Nazca Lines - only discovered 80 years ago, these huge figures carved into the desert floor are best viewed by light aircraft.
Chauchilla Cemetery - complete with well preserved mummies.
Days 6 to 9
Arequipa - explore this beautiful colonial city with its great Latin nightlife & the spectacular surrounding area or go mountain biking, hiking or horse riding.
Colca Canyon - at 900m it's one of the deepest in the world - an optional 1 day guided trip to view the amazing Condors circling lazily in the thermals rising from the canyon floor.
Overnight coach journey across the Andes to Cuzco (either part of full recliner seating)
Cuzco - a colonial city with churches & museums built on top of original Inca stonewalls.
Urubamba or Sacred Valley of the Incas - an optional day tour with a local guide, where you'll find temples, terraces, local communities, markets as you follow the Urubamba River through the ancient valley.
Days 10 to 13
Inca Trail - a trek of 4 days, which combines stunning mountain views and Inca ruins which anyone of reasonable fitness can master.
Machu Picchu - finally we reach the world famous ruins in all their glory, well worth the trek of the previous 3 days! There are also the options to undertake a shorter hike travelling by train part of the way to Machu Picchu, or take one of three alternative treks, the Salkantay, Lares or Vilcabamba which includes the last night in Aguas Calientes.
Our route back to Cuzco for all options is by train.
Days 14 to 15
Cuzco After a free day in Cuzco, those on the 15 day trip fly back to Lima where the trip ends on arrival. For those on the 19 day trip, this is another free day to relax, explore Cuzco or for the adventurous to go white water rafting on the Urabamba River.
Days 16 to 18
Jungle Trip - Fly from Cuzco to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to Tambopata - Candamo Reserve. From here it's two and a half hours by river launch to our lodge. We'll spend 3 nights exploring the rich and diverse flora and fauna by boat as well as on foot with local guides, including a night hike and climbing a canopy tower to see the view from the tree-tops. As well as the possibility to see jungle wildlife you will learn about local trades and environmental issues.
Day 19
Return from Puerto Maldonado to Lima by plane, where the trip finishes on arrival in Lima. Should you wish to spend some extra time in Lima we can arrange accommodation for you.
We also offer a 19 day trip including Lake Titicaca, a 21 day trip including La Paz and a 27 day trip including the Bolivian Jungle and Pampas
Most of our travellers are in their 20s and 30s. Some come as couples or with friends, generally at least half come as singles.
Accommodation is in simple, local hotels plus a night camping under the stars in the Ica Desert, 4 nights camping on the Inca Trail and basic jungle lodges in the Amazon.
